Clear communication includes how we handle your data.

June 2026

Communica is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have when you interact with us – set out simply, in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

What to read first

This privacy policy explains how Communica handles your personal information. If anything is unclear, please email us at hello@communica.com.au.

Our principles

Communica takes a straightforward approach to data protection and privacy that adheres to the 13 Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

Our obligations under the Privacy Act 1988

This privacy policy sets out how we comply with our obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act). As an Australian-based organisation, we are bound by the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act, which regulate how organisations may collect, use, disclose and store personal information, and how individuals may access and correct personal information held about them.

In this privacy policy, ‘personal information’ has the same meaning as defined by section 6 of the Privacy Act: information or an opinion (including information or an opinion forming part of a database), whether true or not, and whether recorded in a material form or not, about an individual whose identity is apparent, or can reasonably be ascertained, from the information or opinion.

What personal information we collect

We collect personal information so we can provide the services and information you have requested from us. We only collect information that is reasonably necessary for our functions and activities.

From the contact form

When you complete the contact form on our website, we collect the information you provide (typically your name, email address, phone number and the content of your enquiry). We use this information to respond to your query and, where relevant to your enquiry, to provide further information about our services.

From mailing list sign-ups

If you sign up to our mailing list, you are opting in to receive emails from Communica relating to our work and services. We send marketing communications in accordance with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) and the guidelines of the Australian Communications and Media Authority. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.

Information collected from third parties

Our website includes links to our profiles on third-party platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook. If you interact with these links, you are doing so under the terms and privacy policies of those platforms. Your activity may become visible to your social network.

We only use personal information for the purpose for which it was collected, or for purposes directly related to one of our functions or activities. We will not disclose your personal information to other parties unless one of the following applies (consistent with APP 6 – use and disclosure of personal information):

  • You have consented;
  • You would reasonably expect, or have been informed, that information of this kind would be passed on;
  • It is otherwise required or authorised by law, or reasonably necessary for the enforcement of a criminal law or a law imposing a pecuniary penalty, or for the protection of public revenue;
  • It may prevent or lessen a serious and imminent threat to somebody’s life or health.

Quality of personal information

We take reasonable steps to ensure the personal information we hold is accurate, up to date and complete. If any information we hold about you needs to be corrected, please contact us at hello@communica.com.au.

Data security

We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from loss, unauthorised access, use, modification, disclosure and other misuse. These measures include password protection of our systems and access controls on stored data. For security reasons we cannot share the full detail of our technical and organisational safeguards, but if you have specific questions, please contact us at hello@communica.com.au.

When personal information is no longer required, or when you request its deletion, we will destroy or de-identify it in a secure manner.

Access and correction

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, or request that it be corrected, by emailing us at hello@communica.com.au. We will respond within a reasonable period.

Under Australian privacy law there are limited circumstances where we may refuse access — for example, where providing access would unreasonably affect another person’s privacy, or pose a risk to someone’s life, health or safety. If we refuse access, we will explain why in writing.

Personal information that is collected by third parties (including when you visit our website) is governed by the privacy policy of that third party. To access or correct that information, please contact the relevant third party directly.
